The Accountant assists in maintaining the general ledger, preparation of CFR and financial management reports. Responsibilities include oversight of the monthly reoccurring journals, account postings and analysis of G/L, payroll, CFR, program/department budget information. Audit consumer ledgers and petty cash at all the community residences quarterly. The incumbent reconciles accounts, generates financial reports and maintains accounting documentation to support Agency funding.


  1. Effective communications skills (both written and oral) to handle accounting issues that impact Agency.
  2. Routine communications with Agency managers and staff as well as administrators outside of the Organization.
  3. Maintain all capital assets to include tracking, tagging, updating database and depreciation each month. Also track and tag assets costing $100 to $999, non-capital assets. Work with IT department to maintain and track all IT equipment. Transfer temporary inventory to department that acquired the equipment. Implement an annual physical inventory for capital and non-capital assets for all departments.
  4. Maintain and generate required management and financial reports including but not limited to: CFR, Budget, Time Studies and Cost Allocations.
  5. Reconciles accounts including but not limited to the following: depreciation, restricted donations, refundable deposits, petty cash, construction-in-progress and temporary inventory, payroll liabilities and all other liabilities.
  6. Audits quarterly, individual's ledgers and petty cash at all community residence sites. Audits Day Habilitation program petty cash account biannually. Audits all other program petty cash accounts twice a year.
  7. Maintain files and database for agency property, leases and insurance.
  8. Serves as Back-up to payroll processing, Community Residential and Community Supports billing and for Accounts Payable
  9. Maintains and generates general ledger entries to record required direct withdrawal/cash disbursement transactions including journal entries required in conjunction with monthly closing processes in a timely and accurate manner.
  10. Performs monthly account reconciliations of supporting documentation to general ledger accounts.
  11. The incumbent should have a basic knowledge of cost centers
  12. Responsible for allocating the agency and expenses on a monthly basis.
  13. Provides support for Annual Agency audit/ yearend requirements,
  14. Supports the goals and mission of Arc of Onondaga. Ensure that communications and personal performance reflect the Agency's commitment to teamwork, compliance with policies and procedures and respect for individuals and staff.
  15. Attend and participate in required Arc meetings, staff development and training programs.
  16. Establish and provide clear and legible documentation and compliance records required by Arc and other government agencies.
  17. Expected to conduct all agency business and complete job responsibilities in accordance with agency Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Plan.
  18. Provide other job-related support and services as required or assigned by management.

Education & Experience Requirements

Bachelors Degree in Finance or Accounting

One to three years of related accounting experience

Combination of education and experience which, in the judgment of the employer, equals above standards.

A valid NYS driver's license and a driving record acceptable to the Agency's insurance carrier

Instruction & Safety

The job requires routine levels of responsibility for the safety of the incumbent and people interacted with on a daily basis. Safety requirements and decisions focus on generally accepted practices for using equipment and intermittent walking and standing.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

Work requires minor physical exertion with incidental or no adverse environmental conditions. The need for physical stamina, endurance, and physical manipulation are limited. Body movement usually involves sitting and intermittent walking and standing.

Technology Requirements

The job requires intermediate computer skills. Must be able to utilize programs to generate reports, complete reviews/analyze data, etc. Must be familiar with and knowledgeable of agency software programs utilized for record keeping/processing including G/L. A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel. The ability to navigate Sage 100 and CFR Software.
