Teacher Assistant

Parkside Children's Center - Full-Time Opening

 

Teacher Assistant assumes the responsibilities of daily classroom operations for periods of short duration during the absence of the classroom teacher and under direction of the Director of Parkside Children's Center.  They are to provide ongoing assistance to all staff on the team in the planning of daily activities and operations.

Requirements

  • Assists in the implementation and documentation of IEP and IFSP goals and objectives for children in the classroom, as well as, all children without disabilities.
  • Provides individual instruction to children as assigned, inclusive of documenting and monitoring progress.
  • Assists in the weekly planning and scheduling of activities and assists in the preparation of materials that is required to carry out such activities.
  • Conducts small group instruction.
  • Attends required team meetings, case reviews, etc., and actively participates in such meetings.
  • In the absence of the teacher:
    • Communicates with parents and relevant staff regarding the child's daily progress
    • Assigns and monitors specific tasks to teacher aides, substitutes, volunteers and interns.
    • Follows through on the teacher's daily educational plan
    • Completes daily paperwork such as attendance, documentation of objective progress, etc.
  • Assists in the daily operations of the classroom by providing any needed assistance to children such as toileting, eating, dressing, etc.
  • Provides supervision for all assigned children at all times.
  • Assists in the general maintenance of supplies and the classroom environment, performing housekeeping duties, ordering supplies, etc., as needed.
  • Supports the Goals and Mission of Arc of Onondaga. Ensures that your communications and personal performance reflect the Agency's commitment to teamwork, compliance with policies and procedures and respect for consumers and staff.
  • Computer and office technology skills that are required to fulfill job responsibilities and assignments.
  • Attends and participates in required Arc and Parkside meetings, staff development and training programs.
  • Establishes and provides clear and legible documentation and compliance records required by Arc and other government agencies.
  • Provides other job-related support and services as required or assigned by management.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Maintain a valid NYS Certificate as a Teacher Assistant (6 credits)
  • HS Diploma or equivalent/AAS or Bachelor's degree desirable.
  • Preferred knowledge of early childhood development and experience with infant/toddlers and/or preschoolers.
  • Combination of education and experience which, in the judgement of the employer, equals above standards
