Pre-Vocational Professional

Full-time Opening

A Pre-Vocational Professional is responsible for providing pre-employment services to individuals enrolled in the Community Based Pre-Vocational services program. Pre-Vocational Professionals transport groups of individuals to community-based work sites, and assist them with developing soft skills to prepare for integrated, competitive employment.  The Pre-Vocational Professional reports to the Vocational Coordinator.



  1. Provides pre-employment coaching to individuals to make progress in their skill development and observe, evaluate and document progress toward goals. The goals should consider skills needed to move toward competitive employment.
  1. Provides person-centered services centered on an individual's strengths, areas for improvement and work interests. Assists individuals with identifying areas of interest to increase motivation.
  1. Promotes opportunities for inclusion and working alongside employees at a work site. Models professionalism and soft skills needed for the workplace.
  1. Provides a customer-service approach to individuals and co-workers by anticipating and meeting needs and expectations. Works as a team with co-workers to provide excellent services for individuals.
  1. Provides hands-on assistance, instruction, guidance, training and supervision on an individual, small, or large group basis to individuals. Demonstrates problem solving and different ways to complete tasks at the work site to prepare individuals or competitive employment.
  1. Respects the human dignity and uniqueness of the people supported. Recognizes each person supported is valuable and help others understand their value.
  1. Maintains responsibility for implementing the Individuals' service plans. Ensures that all documentation is completed and updated as per department, agency and regulatory requirements. Addresses and communicates skill gaps that would become a barrier to competitive employment.
  1. Provides instruction using training strategies and supports consistent with the needs of the Individual and goals outlined in service plans.
  1. Meets all billing, recordkeeping and documentation requirements. Establishes and provides clear and legible documentation and compliance records required by Arc and other government agencies. Safeguards and respects the confidentiality and privacy of the people supported.
  1. Transports individuals in own or agency provided vehicle to and from business experiences.
  1. Supports the Goals and Mission of Arc of Onondaga County. Ensures that communication and personal performance reflect the Agency's commitment to teamwork, compliance with policies and procedures and respect for individuals and staff.
  1. Possesses computer and office technology expertise that is required to fulfill job responsibilities and assignments.
  1. Attends and participates in required Arc meetings, staff development and training programs.
  1. Establishes and provides clear and legible documentation and compliance records required by Arc and other government agencies.
  1. Conducts all agency business and completes job responsibilities in accordance with agency Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Plan.
  1. Provides other job-related support and services as required or assigned by management.


Education & Experience Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalency.
  • 1 year experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities in a vocational setting.
  • Combination of education and experience which, in the judgement of the employer, equals above standards.
  • A valid NYS driver's license and a driving record acceptable to the Agency's insurance carrier.
