UPK/General Education Teacher

Parkside Children's Program

Full-Time Opening

The UPK/General Education Teacher will collaborate with the Classroom Team to develop and effectively implement instructional plans. The UPK/General Education Teacher will ensure effective implementation of the SCSD Prekindergarten Curriculum and participate in all required Professional Development activities.  The UPK/General Education Teacher will complete all required assessments and submit student assessment data within the timeframe established by the SCSD. The UPK/General Education Teacher will complete a Cumulative Folder and Feeder Card for all UPK students, as required by the SCSD. As a team leader, in coordination with the Special Education Teacher, the UPK/General Education Teacher will oversee the daily operations of the classroom, including supervision of Teaching Assistants and Classroom Aides, and ensure a safe, nurturing learning environment. Reports to Director of Parkside Children's Center.

Requirements

  1. In conjunction with the Classroom Team, develops and implements weekly Instructional Plans
  2. Completes ongoing assessment of each child's progress, submits required assessment data per timeline established by the Syracuse City School District, and analyzes assessment data to drive instruction.
  3. Maintains accurate Student Attendance Records, per SCSD, OCFS, and agency requirements
  4. Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements within a safe and nurturing learning environment
  5. Provides ongoing assistance and direction to Teaching Assistants and Classroom Aides in their implementation of Lesson Plans, daily activities, interactions with children and their families, and any other issues pertinent to the daily operations of the classroom.
  6. In coordination with the Special Education Teacher, maintains all classroom equipment and supplies, requesting replacements or new materials when necessary.
  7. Maintains a Lesson Plan book that provides detailed instructions for substitutes at all times.
  8. Maintains open, respectful communications with all staff, promoting a positive, collaborative environment
  9. Completes all required paperwork and documentation in an efficient and timely manner.
  10. Maintains ongoing communication with families, provides opportunities to support and engage families, and participates in Parent-Teacher conferences
  11. Supports the Goals and Mission of Arc of Onondaga. Ensures that communications and personal performance reflect the Agency's commitment to quality, compliance with policies and procedures and respect for children, families, and staff.
  12. Computer and office technology skills that are required to fulfill job responsibilities and assignments.
  13. Attends and participates in required Team Meetings and Staff Meetings. Participates in all required Trainings and Professional Development activities
  14. Maintains accurate documentation and records, as required by Arc of Onondaga and regulatory agencies.
  15. Provides other job-related support and services as required or assigned by management.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Valid NYSED Pre-K Early Childhood teaching Certificate (N-6)or NYSED Special Education Certificate (Birth-2nd grade) or Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, with an approved written plan for obtaining required certification within 5 years.
  • Six to twelve months experience in a Preschool program.
  • Knowledge of Early Childhood development and Best Practice in Early Education
  • Combination of education and experience which, in the judgement of the employer, equals above standards.
